ACTION

The current network of routes provided by ACTION commenced 2 June 2008. This network was intended to operate the same routes 7 days a week, but currently ACTION operate these services on weekdays only. On weekends and public holidays, ACTION operates a separate network of routes (900 series).

The latest major change to routes and timetables occurred on 25 May 2009 due to the replacement of Belconnen Interchange by three on street bus stations.[1] (Please note that references in this article to interchanges may include the Belconnen Bus Stations.) Other changes made at that time include additional weekday services during peak hours and timetable adjustments.

Weekdays

Blue Rapid

Blue Rapid services provide a high-frequency link between Belconnen, City, Woden and Tuggeranong.

During weekday daytime, Blue Rapid routes typically commence from suburban termini in Belconnen (Spence and Fraser) or Tuggeranong (Conder), travel through all interchanges and bus stations along the Blue Rapid trunk route and terminate at the last interchange/bus station and vice-versa. At night the Blue Rapid service consists only of Route 300 which travels between Belconnen, City, Woden and Tuggeranong.

All Blue Rapid services are operated by wheelchair accessible buses and many of the buses are fitted with bicycle racks.

* - When these routes operate as just the suburban component, the route number will be the last two digits (see also regular route services below).

Red Rapid

Red Rapid Route 200 is a limited stop service between Gungahlin Town Centre, Northbourne Avenue, City Bus Station, Russell, Barton, the Canberra Railway Station and Fyshwick. It operates every 15 minutes between 7am and 7pm weekdays. Average service time is 50 minutes.

The service commenced on 16 November 2009 as Route 727 under the name Redex (Rapid Express Direct) as a trial service between Gungahlin and the Canberra Railway Station. On 15 November 2010, the service was renamed Red Rapid, renumbered as route 200 and extended to the Direct Factory Outlets centre in Fyshwick.

All Red Rapid services are operated by wheelchair accessible buses fitted with bicycle racks.

Regular route services

Regular weekday services are identified by a one or two digit route number. These routes operate either as feeder services to a single interchange or connect two or three interchanges via suburban streets.

Community route services

Community route services operate during off-peak to provide additional services to selected areas.

Xpresso

Xpresso services are routes which operate during weekday peak hours to provide direct links to the City, Parliamentary Triangle, Airport Business Parks and Fyshwick or direct services between interchanges bypassing the City. These services are designed to reduce the travel time for commuters to get to and from work.

Other peak services

Other weekday peak hour services operate as an extension to existing route services. These routes are numbered as 1** and 2** where ** represents the two numbers of the regular route service. The 100 series routes travel along the Intertown trunk route between Woden and City Interchanges. The 200 series routes travel via Barton, Kings Avenue, Russell Offices then either Constitution Avenue and the City or to Campbell Park.

Routes 28 and 63 also have peak hour extensions to their regular route but the route numbers do not change (see regular route services above).

School services

School services are provided by ACTION to public and private primary schools, high schools and colleges. These services can only be accessed by school students and staff and are not used by the general public. They are not listed on timetables at bus stops. These are numbered between 401 and 899.

Details of school services can be found at http://www.action.act.gov.au/school_services.html

Weekends and public holidays

Blue Rapid

On weekends and public holidays, the Blue Rapid service operates as Route 900 which travels between all the interchanges as well as the Erindale Centre. Some Route 900 services on Saturday service only Woden, City and Belconnen.

Regular route services

During weekends and public holidays, the route services all use a three-digit route number in the 900 range. These services generally do not provide the same level of service as the weekday services by being less direct and operating less frequently.

The following services operate between 7.00am and 11.30pm on Saturdays and between 8.30am and 7.30pm on Sundays and Public Holidays. Service frequency is every 60 minutes unless otherwise indicated.

AirLiner

This service to Canberra Airport is operated by Deane's Buslines under the AirLiner brand:

Transborder Express

Transborder operates a daily weekday bus service between Yass and Canberra via Murrumbateman.

There are no Transborder scheduled bus services from Yass to Canberra (or return) on weekends or public holidays.
